Roof Replacement

From new construction to tear off and roof-overs, KTM is your source for all your roofing needs.  Getting the right material is an important step in protecting your building from the weather.  Our estimators will talk to you about the options of the different materials for roof design that will give you the best protection for the budget.

KTM installs all roofs per high wind standards and recommends the following;

  • Metal roofs should be at least 26g, and should have at least 30lb felt, (Synthetic moisture barriers are preferred)
  • Tile roof underlayment should be Ice and Water shield as the tiles just protect the underlayment from the sun and do not keep the water out.  Tiles should be screwed not nailed
  • Shingle roofs should be dimensional shingles rated for high wind, 30 lb felt should be used instead of 15 lb
  • Torch down is preferred for low slope or flat roofs as it stands up better to the NM climate

When comparing roof estimates make sure that you are comparing apples to apples and not apples to chiles!

When do you need to replace your roof?

Depending on the roof type these signs may indicate that a new roof is needed.

  • Metal roof - rust spots or loose panels
  • Tile/Slate - usually the underlayment is the problem, broken tiles, missing tiles
  • Shingles - curling edges, blowing up in the wind, swelling with water
  • Low slope (flat roof)
    • Foam - blisters, holes, leaking inside
    • TPO - seams coming apart or holes
    • Tar and Gravel - blisters
    • Torch down - seams coming apart, blisters
